Build A Secret Room
BUILD A SECRET ROOM
Where did the idea of secret rooms come from? Well, who knows really, but it goes way back in history. Ancient castles had them as a way of hiding and moving royalty and military. On the American 19th century frontier, pioneers sometimes had them as a place of hiding, should Indian tribes overtake a house. They were used as part of the underground railway to hide escaping slaves. In World War II they were used to hide Jews from Nazi searches.
Preppers like secret rooms. They use them to hide stashes of food, weapons, vaults with money, etc. How are you going to find a prepper when he or she is hidden behind a wall in a secret room?
How do you get inside a secret room? Every secret room has a secret door. The door is disguised as something else. Sometimes the door is a bookshelf. It may be a panel in a wall that opens with a push. Sometimes the door is a part of a cabinet or a mirror.
Some secret rooms are simply attics that have had their entrance concealed. The beauty of this type of secret room is that it probably comes standard with your house and doesn't need much special designing.
If you live in a tiny house you probably won't sacrifice the space to create a secret room. However, if you are living in a mid size house, why not convert some of that extra space into a secret room where you can be covert. You will have the last laugh when the thieves and thugs only make off with a little food from the fridge and never even knew about those hidden gold bars in your secret room.
